
Position
The Director of Golf is responsible for overseeing all aspects of golf operations at the club, including managing member golf course activities, pro shop operations, member relations, competitions and tournaments, handicaps, tuition and club fitting along with maintaining the club’s exclusive reputation. The ideal candidate will be a passionate, experienced leader with a solid background in golf operations having exceptional customer service and strong commercial acumen.

Key Responsibilities:
The Director of Golf will work closely with the entire team at Bearwood Lakes along with external suppliers and tournament staff.
- Team Management: Oversee the management of all aspects of the Golf Operations team and Professional staff. Whilst reporting to the Managing Director you will also build strong relationships with the Chairman, where availability and prompt action will be required, along with fostering teamwork with other Heads of Departments to ensure a smooth and professional operation.
- Pro Shop Services and Golf Operation: Oversee the management of the Pro Shop with the assistance of the team. This includes ensuring the shop is appropriately stocked as well as managing the tee-time booking system and members services such as bag, shoe and trolley store, trolley and buggy hire.
- Tuition and Fitting: Promote tuition and fitting, managing the calendars for yourself and the team ensuring a structured high-quality service is delivered.
- Revenue Generation: Assist in identifying and implementing strategies to improve golf-related revenue streams and provide technical expertise to address client needs.
- Business Planning: Develop a business plan for shop sales, teaching and fitting services, including marketing and sales strategies.
- Golf Days: Overseeing the golf element of member golf days. With the team, manage on-the-day scoring, on-course competitions, participants gifts, the hire of buggies, trolleys, locker allocations etc. Liaise with the Events Manager and the Food and Beverage Team to ensure a smooth day.
- Strengthening our established our reputation: Through the hosting of external events: Act as main point of contact for tournaments/events such as The Open Qualifying, Senior Open Qualifying, and Rose Ladies Series. Plan and execute the annual PGA Pro-Am.
- Membership Integration: Seek out new members and welcome them to the club. With the team, organise and host new member events and encourage participation in all activities held at the club. Organise away days and golf trips to engage with members, this also includes attending key member functions. Attend and contribute to Committee meetings as needed.
Assist the Junior Organiser to support participation at all levels of the club.
- Performance Monitoring: Track performance records and ensure departmental targets are met.
- Team Management: Conduct yearly appraisals for your team, set objectives, and evaluate their performance. Ensure appropriate staffing levels and efficient rotas that align with business needs and budgets.
- Training and Development: Provide training and development to the team, maintaining company standards. Provide mentorship to help each member of the team reach their full potential.
- Reporting, Forecasting and Budgets: Track the golf department P&L. Be pro-active in making adjustments to ensure financial sustainability. Set revenue rates, create and maintain budgets and lead regular stock takes working closely with the Financial Controller.
- Customer Service: Consistently maintain a professional, positive and helpful attitude with members, guests, and colleagues.
Be the role model for your team – set examples of professionalism and work ethic. Develop and nurture the team to continuously provide a first-class service.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- PGA Qualified
- Relevant Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a similar role within the golf industry.
- Leadership Skills: Ability and confidence to manage a team effectively, provide training, and evaluate performance.
- Sales and Marketing: Skills in sales, marketing, and business planning to drive revenue.
- Technical Expertise: Knowledge of golf products, services, and instructional expertise. Ideally a knowledge of Jonas and Golf Genius, or an ability and willingness to learn new systems.
- Interpersonal skills: Strong focus on customer service and relationship building, both internally and externally.
- Personal: Hold an Enhanced Disclosure and Baring Service check (DBS) and be First Aid trained (willing to attend on-going personal development training offered by the Club)
- Communication Skills: Clear and professional communication with team members, members, guests, and the Directors.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to address operational challenges effectively and swiftly.
- Brand Standards: Uphold and implement company standards.
- Social media: Contribute to social media content creation.
